观 shows 见, to see, and first meant 'to examine closely'. 又 took the place of 雚 guàn, which once gave the sound. From 'examine closely' came 'point of view' and 'sight, appearance'. Read guàn, it borrows the sound for 'high platform', then 'Daoist monastery'.
