晋

晋 shows the sun 日 rising over the horizon, so it first meant the sun coming up into the sky. The other part 亚 is now empty; it was originally 晉 without 日 jiàn, which gave the sound. From sunrise it grew to advancing or entering, and to promoting. The Jin dynasty name was borrowed for its sound.
