扬

扬 shows a hand 扌 lifting, with 𠃓 yáng, a picture of the sun rising, which also gives the sound. It first meant to hold something up by hand, then grew to 'raise, hoist' and 'wave, flutter'. In Simplified Chinese 𠃓 stands in for 昜, a cursive shortcut.
